8 Days of Migration &
Calving Magic
Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you'll be warmly welcomed by a
Tanzania Moja representative and transferred to your hotel in Arusha for check-in and relaxation
before the adventure begins.
Your safari begins in Tarangire National Park, known for its immense elephant herds and towering baobab trees. The Tarangire River serves as a lifeline, attracting large numbers of wildlife including zebras, giraffes, antelopes, and buffaloes — often followed by lions and other predators. In the dry season, this park hosts one of the largest elephant populations in northern Tanzania. The scenery here is unmatched, with scattered ancient baobabs painting a picture- perfect African landscape.
Early in the morning, you’ll travel to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, descending into the
UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Crater — a natural amphitheater teeming with life. With its
extraordinary density of wildlife, you’ll have the chance to spot elephants, lions, hyenas, zebras,
buffaloes, and the elusive black rhino. Giraffes are notably absent, unable to descend due to their
long limbs.
Lunch will be enjoyed near Lake Magadi, where hippos bask and birds hover playfully. Be sure
to guard your food — kites and monkeys might try to snatch a bite!
Today, your game drive takes you to the Ndutu area in the southwestern Ngorongoro region, bordering the Serengeti. This is one of the most iconic sites for calving season, where from late January to March, hundreds of thousands of wildebeests give birth on the open plains. Witness baby wildebeests take their first steps within minutes of birth — a vital survival trait in a predator-rich environment. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, and even rare cats like servals and caracals are active here, making this region a dream for big cat enthusiasts and photographers alike.
The journey continues into the southern reaches of Serengeti National Park, home to the vast short-grass plains that define the southern migration corridor. Your first full day in the Seronera Valley promises unforgettable wildlife sightings — from herds of elephants and graceful giraffes to stealthy cheetahs and roaring lions. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is not just rich in wildlife; it’s legendary. The landscape and stories of Serengeti inspired the Lion King, and you’ll understand why when you witness its raw, cinematic beauty.
Another full day in the Seronera region, where no two days are ever the same. Yesterday’s sleeping lions may be on the hunt, and elephants that passed your vehicle might return curiously close. You’ll explore the region’s Kopjes – ancient granite outcrops where predators often rest – and visit Simba Rock, the real-life inspiration for the Lion King’s iconic Pride Rock. This is your chance to reflect and take in the full grandeur of the Serengeti before your return journey.
Enjoy your final moments in the savannah as you begin your journey back to Arusha. Depending on your flight schedule, you’ll either fly out of Serengeti airstrip or drive back with a scenic route. Overnight in Arusha.
After breakfast and hotel check-out at 10:00 AM, you’ll be transferred to the airport. If you have a later flight and would like to extend your hotel stay, let our team know in advance (additional charges may apply).
